I am excited to share that three of my floral paintings have been juried into the 2016 "Winter's Garden" exhibit at the Riverfront Arts Center in Stevens Point, WI. Tonight is the opening reception from 5 - 7 at the gallery located at 1200 Crosby Avenue. In addition to beautiful, garden-inspired art, live plants are on display and available for purchase. As soon as you step inside, you feel as though you are in an indoor botanical garden. It is a wonderful, welcomed respite from the cold. The show runs through February 21st.

"Lucky in Love" original acrylic painting by artist Nancy Laliberte

"Lucky in Love"
© Nancy Laliberte
36" x 24" acrylic on canvas
private collection

I have had the privilege of creating some very special commissioned paintings recently, and "Lucky in Love" is one of them. This piece was a wedding gift commissioned by the parents of a bride, and based on a mother/daughter trip to Ireland. It was a delightful project because it has many of my favorite elements - flowers, landscape, sky, greens! The family was a joy to work with, too, so that made it especially fun. Keep following along, as I share more painting commissions, along with the approach I take to help make it a successful experience for everyone involved.

For more paintings, be sure to visit my online gallery at nancylaliberte.com

As always, THANK YOU for being a part of my artist journey. I love what I do and enjoy sharing it with all of you. :-)

I love painting from life whenever possible. "Summer Circle" was painted in my friend Carla's garden, amidst conversation on family, travel, art, gardening, and desserts. ;-) Thank you, Carla!

This piece is framed in a plein-air gold frame, and currently available at The Alexander House Center for Art & History, Port Edwards, WI, now through January 5, 2016.

"Always with You," original acrylic painting by Nancy Laliberte

"Always with You"
© Nancy Laliberte
6" x 6" acrylic on panel
SOLD

I loved the challenge of capturing the vibrant and subtle shifts of pink in the flowers, the blues in the jar, and then having it all come together with a neutral, yet colorful background. While painting this piece, I found myself thinking of my breast cancer "sisters" out there, and families who have been affected by cancer. There is a lot of love and prayer mixed in the paint on this one.

"Blues 'n Jazz" original oil painting by artist Nancy Laliberte

available

This piece is a part of my upcoming show at the Alexander House in Port Edwards, WI. The show opens next Friday, November 20th, with a reception from 5 - 8 pm. I am thrilled to be sharing the gallery space with ceramic artist Joe Clark from Port Edwards.

A work-in-progress shot – I often begin with a transparent under painting and then build upon that with opaque paint mixtures. There is a lot of stepping back, thinking twice, and painting once. And then some scraping and trying it again. ;-)

Work-in-Progress - Day 10 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days with artist Nancy Laliberte

Work-in-Progress...I never met a painterly sky I didn't like! Sharing a detail of the sky portion of the commission. I like that it could be it's own painting.

Speaking of painterly skies, check out artist Mary Maxam's sky paintings and other beautiful work here.

Thank you for allowing me to share my creative joy with you!

I teach a weekly art class at Acton Academy in Wausau, WI. Today's class involved going on an ARTventure in the school courtyard. Taking the time to see and sketch with an artist's eye is a great way to instill attention to detail habits in a fun way that can carry over to other areas. The meditative aspect to being outside in nature can't be beat. And, when we finish a bit early, I make the kids play for a bit before going back inside. ;-)

Work-in-Progress - Day 8 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with artist Nancy Laliberte

Work-in-Progress - Day 6 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days with artist Nancy Laliberte

Work-in-Progress...the creative joy continues as I keep plugging away on the big commission. I always love the initial block-in of painting, because it goes very quickly for me. The push and pull of color and temperature (warm and cool colors) is the part where I have to slow down, but not over think it. "Look twice, paint once."

Thank you for allowing me to share my creative joy with you!

Sketchbook Saturday - Day 5 - 30 paintings in 30 days with artist Nancy Laliberte

Oh my! Lunch
© Nancy Laliberte
ink and watercolor on paper

While I am continuing to finish my two WIP's (work-in-progress) paintings from days 3 and 4, I wanted to share a sketch from my daily sketchbook/journal/planner. After purchasing my produce at the Wausau farmer's market this morning, I noticed Urban Bistro's big orange food truck and headed over to see what was on the menu. Many things were already sold out (their food is DELISH!), but not the lamb kebabs! Yay! Lunch dilemma solved, and triple JOY - sketching, painting and eating. By the way, you have no idea how hard it was to sketch and paint this before eating it! :-)

Thank you for allowing me to share my creative joy with you!

Work in Progress - Day 4 - 30 paintings in 30 days with artist Nancy Laliberte

Day 4 of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge included working on a landscape commission. This piece is 36" x 24" and requires more than one day of painting time. Several days, actually, and I wanted to give a sneak peek since that was the project for the day.

Thank you for allowing me to share my creative joy (and life) with you!

Oh, how I love peony season! I can't help but wonder if the blooming season of a flower is to remind us to be in the present, to enjoy the fleeting moments of today. Recording the joy of my day in paint, or with a sketch, truly fills my creative "well."

What brings you joy? Please feel free to share your joy moment(s) in the comments.

This summer I had the wonderful opportunity to plein-air paint at Ovans Peony Farm, located about 25 miles from my studio. It is so beautiful there! I had a great time painting (seriously, who wouldn't?!). Thank you, Michelle and Mike!

Definitely a perk to my job - a blissful day of plein-air painting peonies!

"Golden Days" original acrylic painting by Nancy Laliberte

 Golden Days
© Nancy Laliberte
4" x 4" x 1-3/8" acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas
sold

The midwest landscape of August is filled with such yummy color. I have been thoroughly enjoying the field patterns of golds and greens paired up with the beautiful skies we have been having (when it has not been raining), and punctuated with a few extra spots of color.

It reminds me of my childhood growing up on a Wisconsin farm and soaking up those last days of summer while running around barefoot with the cool grass under my feet, the golden sun warming my skin, and seeing all of the field patterns created by the hard-working farmers, my father included. These images are etched in my mind and in my heart. I love bringing them out with paint just as one might pull out a favorite photo album filled with pictures of the past.

Keep enjoying your summer, and be sure to spend some time running around barefoot in the grass before the snow flies ;)

Thank you for being a part of my art journey,
you are appreciated!

I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to paint and share my art with others. Even better is when I get to share my love of art through painting commissions for wedding gifts. Definitely feeling the LOVE with those! Last summer I had the opportunity to work with an awesome client who had several family weddings on her calendar. As an art fan and collector, she wanted to give these special people in her life a unique and personal gift - a piece of original art. She shared with me her ideas of what she had in mind and allowed me to take them and paint away.

Using the landscape motif, this painting conveys the newlywed's love of the outdoors and sense of adventure. A personal touch was added by working in the couple's first names, last name, and wedding date with brushstrokes of paint in a subtle way that becomes visible upon closer viewing of the painting. Credit for that goes to my client. I told you she is awesome!

the first names of the groom and bride located in the foreground pine trees

their last name in the tree line at the top of the rocks

and their wedding date is in the foreground shadow area of the rocks

I thoroughly enjoyed working on this commission, and always welcome projects like this. If you are looking for a special piece of artwork for a gift or for yourself, just shoot me an email lalibertefineart@gmail.com - to get started.

take care,
Nancy
